Skip si je ustvaril ime kot nepogrešljivi del hišnega banda Sugar Hill. Prste je imel zraven pri nastanku najvplivnejših rap klasik ‘Rapper’s Delight’, ‘The Message’ in ‘White Lines’. Ko je zapustil Sugar Hill je skupaj z Dougom Wimbishem (Madonna, Living Colour, Seal)in bobnarjem Keithom LeBlancom (Peter Gabriel,Tina Turner,Ministry) začel sodelovati s producentom Adrianom Sherwoodom ter kasneje presnoval trio v skupino Tackhead. Kot del Sherwoodove On-U Sound ekipe je soustvaril nekaj najbolj avanturistične ter odobravane otoške glasbe zadnjih dvajsetih let.
V devetdesetih si je nadel ime Little Axe in začel snemati blues plošče, obenem pa nadaljeval z mnogimi gostovanji pri drugih glasbenih projektih. Njegove najbolj sveže plošče (Bought For A Dollar, Sold For A Dime, Stone Cold Ohio, Champagne & Grits) so bile izdane pri Real World Records.
DABY TOURE:
Med ulicami Pariza in vrtinčastim saharskim peskom leži glasba, ki hkrati povzame vse in nič od teh z glasbo prepojenih krajev. Glasbenik Daby Toure, sin afriške puščave in otrok pariške glasbene vzgoje je postavil standarde, ki stoje onkraj ozemelj in narodnosti. Daby je ena največjih zvezd afriške glasbe, virtuozni kitarist in tolkalec s čudovitim, empatičnim glasom in obilico odrske karizme. Dabyjevo glasbo krasi veličastna fuzija zvokov njegovih korenin iz Mavretanije in izkušenj, ki si jih je pridobil z leti življenja v Parizu. Dodatno draž ima tudi njegovo petje, v katerem se prepletajo jeziki njegovega otroštva (jeziki Wolof, Soninké in Pulaar) z angleščino.Igral je z imeni, kot so Pat Metheny ali Joe Zawinful ter doživel mednarodni uspeh z bratom (Toure Toure). SKIP McDONALD is the legendary guitarist,who was a pioneer in the development of HipHop and Rap in the bands of the Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash.After a while as a session guitarist for James Brown he worked in the groundbreaking band Tackhead together with Bernard Fowler(Rolling Stones),Doug Wimbish(madonna,Living Colour,Seal) and Keith LeBlanc(Peter Gabriel,Tina Turner,Ministry) on the evolution of a sounds+samples-oriented erlectronic/groovey rock music.His excellent own band Little Axe performed on innumerable festival all over the world and also on the Robert Plant World Tour.McDonald is an intensely authentic musician with a heartbreaking,bluesy voice,which leaves no one untouched!
DABY TOURE is one of the biggest stars in african music,a virtuosic guitarist and percussionist with a fantastic,emphatic silver voice and a charismatic stage presence.He played with Pat Metheny or Joe Zawinul and had an international big success with Toure Toure,together with his brother,in all countries worldwide.On their new CD “Call My Name”(Real World),McDonald and Toure indicate an impressive cooperation with terrific songs and a virtuosy,but nonchalant mixture of african music, Blues and an electronic-oriented singer/song-writing.
